Transportation
Auvergne isn’t a very difficult place to reach, though there are some parts of the region which are a bit more secluded and will demand a greater effort from the traveler. The best way to see Auvergne is to travel by car, which offers a bigger flexibility than other means of transport.
Get in
By car
The Auvergne region can be reached from Paris on the A71 motorway (3h), from Lyon on the A72 motorway (2h) and from Beziers on the A75 Meridienne motorway (no toll).
By train
There are trains from Clermont Ferrand and Toulouse to Aurillac, which pass through the small towns and villages of the Auvergne, although they are a bit slow.
By plane
The Airport of Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne hosts the regional hub of Air France and in 2003 exceeded the cap of one million passengers annually. However, it is unfortunate that this isolation is essentially limited to the valley of Allier north.
Get around
If you travel by car, then you’ll be happy to know there are plenty of good roads from which to choose your itinerary. But the most traveled means are still the trains, which although somewhat slower than a car make the trip even more worthwhile scenery wise.
